Achievements

The Le@rning Federation has worked collaboratively with educational jurisdictions to provide challenging and engaging digital learning experiences for students and to achieve the targets set by ministers.

TLF's achievements include:

  • produced more than 7,000 items of digital curriculum content, including learning objects in priority curriculum areas and digital resources from cultural institutions and public organisations;
  • worked with more than 20 cultural and scientific institutions and other organisations to capture content and then enhance its usefulness in classrooms with specially written educational value statements – partner organisations include the National Film and Sound Archive, Getty Images and Powerhouse Museum;
  • produced digital curriculum content that is free from further remuneration to collection agencies such as Copyright Agency Limited;
  • established interoperable industry and educational standards to ensure the digital curriculum content can be used on computers and operating systems across Australia and New Zealand;
  • developed specifications that not only optimise accessibility and technical performance but also ensure educational soundness and appropriate rights management;
  • established detailed quality assurance processes, including evaluation by students and teachers, to guarantee the educational and technical standards;
  • provided teachers' notes for the australianscreen online website;
  • developed a strategy and software systems, the Exchange and CRISP, to support the management of intellectual property both by TLF and by educational jurisdictions;
  • collaboratively developed ScOT (the Schools Online Thesaurus) to facilitate discoverability of the content;
  • established a portal, Scootle, to provide the digital curriculum content to schools where access is otherwise difficult;
  • constructed mechanisms so educational jurisdictions and cultural and other organisations can share content;
  • conducted a longitudinal study on the use of TLF digital curriculum content in schools in all Australian states and territories and in New Zealand, and produced five research reports based on the findings;
  • investigated how TLF content can be used to engage and motivate Indigenous students in a range of educational settings.
