During 2007 the Catholic schools sectors in Tasmania have engaged in a number of in-school evaluations of learning objects. All schools in both sectors have been encouraged to register to be part of the evaluation process on the The Le@rning Federation website.
Schools are encouraged though their ICT and curriculum coordinators to spend time reviewing the learning objects now available. Professional learning opportunities are offered three times a year for staff to see the latest developments from TLF and to share any issues that may have arisen in the use of the learning objects and digital resources in their school.
Professional development and information sharing sessions will continue throughout the state each term in 2007 and 2008. These sessions held in the north, north-west and south of Tasmania provide opportunities for staff and school administrators to hear about the developments taking place in the distribution of learning objects to schools.
As of November 2007, a number of Catholic schools have installed ClickView servers as a means of providing access to learning objects and digital resources. To date this has proven to be a popular and successful trial with more schools looking at introducing ClickView into their school. DVDs are distributed to schools in both zipped format and as browsable copies throughout the year upon request.
The most important issue for Catholic schools is one of raising the level of expertise of teachers in the use of learning objects in teaching and learning where they may be of benefit. To this end, continuing professional development will be offered throughout the life of the project.
