Series description:
Students practise whole number sequences using numerals, quantities (for example, dots) and words. Thinking is focused on considering the number that comes before and after given numbers.
Learning object description:
Students work with whole numbers up to ten. Numbers are represented as words, numerals and dots, which represent quantities. This learning object is the first in a series of five objects that progressively increase in difficulty.
Key learning objectives:
  • Students sequence whole numbers from one to ten.
  • Students connect number words and numerals to the quantities they represent.
  • Students recognise place value in numbers up to ten.
Educational value:
  • Students recognise digit names and values up to ten in a variety of representations.
  • Students develop and consolidate counting forwards and backwards skills that are fundamental to addition and subtraction skills.
  • The learning object challenges students to develop strategies as they predict, test and confirm, or change the sequencing of numbers.
  • Randomised number generation encourages repeated use.
